england vs. paraguay

england fought to a 1-0 win in what was a tight defensive game set out by the paraguay side. the only goal of the match came just after 4 minutes, with beckham swinging in his trademark free kick from the right wing and an unfortuante flick on by the veteran centre back of paraguay, carlos gamarra made the keeper no chance to catch the ball. england dominated possession throughout the match, while paraguay had occasional chances, the best one coming from nelson valdez just before half time, shooting the ball inches past the post. lampard had two good chances in the second half from mid range, both parried away brilliantly by the goalkeeper. nervous moments for the english defense right before the final whistle endangered the english goal, but nevertheless a 1-0 win for england in the end. it's trinidad and tobago vs. sweden next, kicking off around 12am. football pundits on TV predicts this match as a potential thrashing by sweden, at least seeing 3 or 4 goals in the trinidad side of the net. i'll be here blogging the post match highlights then.
