germany vs. costa rica

the 1st game of the world cup held in allianz arena, munich had just ended a few minutes ago and the game is far from what they call uneventful. the scoreline itself tells it all - 4-2 to germany. all round good performance from germany, especially from miroslav klose, who scored 2 goals to help germany cruise to a victory in the world cup opener. philip lahm scored a stunner from the far right of the penalty box, before paolo wanchope equalized for costa rica a few minutes after. miroslav klose then scored from a simple tap in through a cross from bernd schneider, then klose again scored in the second half. paolo wanchope scored again in the second half to put costa rica 3-2 down, before torsten frings scored perhaps the goal of the tournament from over 30 yards from the goal. overall, a very interesting match and a break from the traditionally boring world cup opener matches in previous versions of the competition. defensive errors from germany, especially from the two centre backs allowed the two goals to be scored. hopefully germany will observe the errors made and improve themselves for the crucial match against poland next week. after this is the match between poland and ecuador, i'll be watching everything and i'll blog the match overview after it ends. hopefully i won't fall asleep during the match, though. hehe.
