Higashi no Eden

This has got to be one of the candidates for the best anime of the year. Heck, with Oasis(yes, THE Oasis) singing the opening theme and a nice ending theme to boot, not to mention the animation is top notch, so there’s no doubt at all.

Pretty strong line-up this season, but I’ve only watched K-On! and this and I’m also downloading like 11 other new titles so far, so maybe it’s still too early to judge, though I’ve heard bad news about Tears to Tiara and Valkyria Chronicles. But of course, now I know what anime I shouldn’t miss out at all this season.

Oh right, I haven’t even finished watching half the animes I re-downloaded for the last season. And with torrents running at satisfactory speeds here, the list is going to add up pretty soon…

Wireless Woes

Wireless here, or at least near my room, is so bad that it shows excellent and fair at the same time. It can be excellent at one time, and degrade to poor a few seconds later. And now the wired connection doesn’t even work anymore, not that it’s any good when it did. Far cry from the 40Mbps speeds I had earlier this year…

On an unrelated note, exam is near. Thermodynamics now, mechanics next. Then there’s electrical engineering to touch on, and last but not least vector calculus. I sense bad times ahead.

Headache

After doing a boo-boo with installation of Ubuntu (never doing that again) which caused my Vista’s partition to go bonkers, I’ve decided to delete every single partition on my hard drive and do a clean installation of Windows 7 Build 7057.

Headache because 50 gigs worth of anime is gone. 4 gigs of right-click-save images and wallpapers are gone. My whole music collection, 15 gigs worth, gone. Forever.

Oh, my 1st sem notes are gone too. An advanced apologies to my direct-junior-to-be, whoever you are.

Owh well, time to re-download every single anime I have download this Winter 09 season. Might bother about the music later, after I moved out and subscribed a 4Mbit line. Check out the lists. ==

Looks like an inevitable encounter between Arsenal and Man Utd looms in the 1st semi final. And WTF Liverpool vs Chelsea again! Tough to predict, especially the Barca vs Bayern and Liverpool vs Chelsea match. My best bet is Barca vs Liverpool in the 2nd semi final.

It’s that time of the year again, folks.

To be honest, I am only watching three currently airing animes at the moment since I have scarcely any time to watch anime for a long stretch of time this semester. Toradora!, White Album and (sometimes) To Aru Majutsu no Index. Sad life I’m living ehh.

On the bright side, Spring 2009 looks interesting. Plenty of downloadables. *ignores Winter Sonata*

Natsu no Arashi looks nice, considering the author of the manga is Kobayashi Jin from School Rumble.

K-On by KyoAni, should be good. Boohoo for no Suzumiya Haruhi season 2!!! Screw them for that.

Hatsukoi Limited. What can I say? Pretty girls galore, so yeah.

Let’s see… Shangri La, Senjou no Valkyria(adapted from the PS3 game), Pandora Hearts, Saki, Hayate no Gotoku 2, Tears to Tiara(another game adaptation), Tayutama and Phantom should also be in my download list. Not that I’m watching all of them though. ^^;;

Though we have only met for a measly one semester, it has been fun. You were always, in my mind, an outgoing and fun loving person. You playfully joke about things when I see you, and although we weren’t the closest of friends, you opened up to me and to everyone else. You even asked me to photostate the notes I got from our direct senior, which I didn’t do so since I foolishly thought that you’d come back soon. But yeah, nobody in the world would have expected this. We never even knew it was coming.

Rest in peace my coursemate, the one who shared a direct senior with me, and of course, my beloved friend. You will be missed.

Windows 7 Device Sync

One of the cool features I’ve just found out in Windows 7 is the very much improved device sync compared to the really unfriendly interface in Vista. Real sweet.

I’ve been spending more and more time booting into Windows 7 instead of Vista, finding myself loving 7 more and more. Windows Media Player 12 is simply awesome as well. ^^

Going back to Kuching on the 23rd this month to celebrate probably the most important week for me this year. No, birthdays aren’t as important as this. You get free money during this period and don’t call these few days important?

Yeah yeah, Chinese New Year is nearing once again. The only period of time where Kuching turns into a warzone. And by warzone it’s even fiercer than that “war” somewhere where I could care less about.

Updates on life over here.

Bought a new set of tweeters, Altec Lansing ones to be exact. Paired it with my newly bought Soundblaster USB soundcard, sweet pure bliss flowing out of them tweeters. Mah new Sennheiser PX100 ain’t half as bad as well when paired with the Soundblaster. XD

Bought a 320GB Western Digital Passport to replace my brick-like 320GB “external” hard disk from my desktop. Finally I can play GTA IV on my desktop without the worry of running out disk space.

Will update again in Kuching. Too busy lazying around here. ^^;;

Windows 7 Beta Build 7000

I’ve been playing around with the beta build of Windows 7 which was recently released to public.

First thoughts: slick and polished.

Pretty wallpapers galore. I can stare at these with awe all day.

I’m also glad for the significantly less amount of resources Windows 7 uses when completely idle(no programs running at all), but maybe it’s just the beta build.

Some might not like the new taskbar in Windows 7, but I absolutely love it! It’s so much fun to play with, Window’s equivalent to Apple’s famous dock perhaps?

Definitely needs more room for improvement, for example the taskbar’s Desktop Preview function isn’t perfect. The desktop preview for iTunes doesn’t show up properly when minimized but shows up perfect after maximizing. I won’t be expecting too much from this beta build, but will definitely stick to it while dual booting my trusty Vista.

It's finally Christmas, the last holiday of the year! And just three more days before I go back to ~~torture~~ Kay-Elle. Had wonderful turkey yesterday at home, last one I had was during my primary school years. And I always thought turkey had more resemblence to duck meat. Contradictarily, and to my absolute surprise, IT TASTES JUST LIKE CHICKEN, just like everything else is. Except it's like 1:4 turkey-chicken meat amount ratio. ^^;;

Ten Days & Counting

Only ten days away from going back to KL and back to uni life. What have I been doing during my holidays? Apart from slacking around at home and having my biological clock reversed(sleeping at 8am instead of waking up), not much really. I have been busy meeting up with friends most of the days and did attend two secondary school gatherings, one for a form five and another for form six. Good to see everyone still doing good and it has been real nice sharing our experiences at each of our universities during the form six gathering.

A few of my primary school buddies have been doing LAN parties at my house as well, we literally played games from morning till night, mostly Warcraft 3 and Starcraft and the occasional Counter Strike. T'was fun, albiet tiring at the end of the day. Beats going to the cyber cafe and spending money on playing games I can play at home with superior computer power. ^^

2008 is ending as well. And an eventful year it is. STPM results came out, though I didn't do as well as I had hoped for, I was selected to attend UKM for my tertiary studies, and met all the wonderful friends at UKM. I started my Civil Engineering course here, although honestly I did regret a little bit for choosing this course. Ahh well, whether I like it or not, I still have to finish this course, so I'll just have to try to enjoy studying the course as much as I can. 2008 will forever be remembered as one of the big turning points of my life.

I have a feeling that my English is getting really poor after writing this post. This is really bad... ^^;;

Hackintosh OSX

Thanks to all the helpful tips I got from Insanely Mac, I finally had Leopard 10.5.5 up and running on my Dell XPS M1530. It wasn't, at all, a smooth ride as I repeatedly installed and formatted due to errors booting the OSX that I had encountered along the way. Well worth it I suppose.

Only bummer is that there's no driver(or kext, kernel extension in this case) support for my WLAN and network card. That means no online on my OSX which is a big setback for me. Really wanna test the performance of Safari on an OSX.

Most of the other stuffs work surprisingly well, including full HD video playback which played without a hitch on the Mac version of VLC player. I'm very impressed.

Tempted to test drive an OSX on your PC? Try OSX86 project for a start. This is a long road to venture through, so be prepared for the time consuming processes involved during setup and customizing your OSX.

Or better yet, go buy Macbook/Macbook Pro/Mac mini/iMac/PowerMac. I'm tempted to buy either a Macbook or a Mac Mini. ^^

It's been a while since I've posted a picture of myself, haven't I? I've changed quite a bit as you can see, from all my travels. Thank goodness for that Tesla Suit that I'm wearing there. Live in the Capital Wastelands can be quite dangerous with all the radiation pools and mutated beings wandering around, not to mention the oh so annoying raiders, slavers and those pesky mercs trying to kill you for caps. And nothing comes as handy as the hunting rifle that I'm holding there for all your (obviously) hunting instincts. I can thank some random super mutant that I probably decimated without thinking for the free rifle.

Fallout 3 is damn fun.

The latest and perhaps the last album from the awesomeness that was Macross Frontier is finally here! IN 2 CDS!!! 20 songs in the 1st CD, 12 in the 2nd CD!

Almost all the songs are in, and best of all, the Nyan Nyan Service Medley mix is 12 minutes plus long this time so it doesn't feel that rush like the 7 minute plus version from Nyan Tora, the previous album. And Infinity + Diamond Crevasse with Sheryl and Ranka dueting FTW!!! *orgasm*

Fire in Kuching High

A big fire in Kuching High at noon just now. I was a student here for my Form 4 and Form 5 years.

Judging from the picture and my vague memory of the school layout, the main administrative building and the science block were the victims. The science block is completely decimated as you can see in the picture (building on the left, on fire).

Hope there's no casualties involved in this unfortunate incident. SPM is still ongoing so hope the exam is not affected by this.

Graphics card upgrade complete. GTA IV here I come! But of course, not before my Fallout 3 coming next Monday. Time to reinstall Crysis as well. XD

This incredible card idles at 44 degrees celcius and goes up to a maximum of 56 degrees celcius at full load. All thanks to its monster sized heat sink + fan.

After overclocking to 700MHz core clock and 2200MHz memory clock, guess what the temperatures are? Just a mere two degrees celcius increment at full load. *gasp*

I'm definitely in heaven now.

I wanna go to Singapore to attend the AFA 2008 on the 22nd and 23rd November where May'n, the singer voice for Sheryl Nome of Macross Frontier will be going for a concert but my flight back to Kuching is on the 21st and I thought to myself that the trip to Singapore would be the best birthday present to myself but NOOOO. I just HAD to go back on the 21st.

That's not all. Comic Fiesta 2008 will be held on the 20th and 21st December at the Sunway Convention Hall in Sunway Pyramid. You wouldn't want me to mention when I'm going back to KL. All I can say is that I would be defying space time continuum if I could make it.

2 more weeks, 5 more papers. Screwed up my Engineering Maths(I think). Been playing Far Cry 2, Dead Space and Red Alert 3 simultaneously on my lappy these few days. You say I'm doomed or not? I think I can pass, but only passing an easy semester is not a proud thing to achieve.

I see STPM is starting on the 18th this month. Good luck brave young men and women. It's not gonna be easy during those few weeks, but once the results come out, don't be surprised. Given that you did your best lah. ^^

Fallout 3

Fallout 3 is officially out. Despite what all the die-hard Fallout fans say all around the Internet, the game is great and it's proven. IGN gave it a 9.6, Gamespot gave a 9.0 and Gamespy gave it an outstanding 5 out of 5.

What does that mean to the rest of you that doesn't play games? Well, not much at all of course. But what does that mean to me, who enjoy FPSes and RPGs, especially Fallout 3 where FPS and RPG elements are blended together like an ice blended mocha on a hot summer's day? IMPULSE BUY!

Just ordered a piece of Fallout 3 at a local online store at a decent price of RM139(~USD40). Actually wanted to get Red Alert 3 as well, but concerning the so-so reviews of every game review site, decided to pass and get the "Jack Sparrow" version. Far Cry 2 was on my wishlist as well, but at RM179(~USD50), nahhh. I'd rather wait for Grand Theft Auto 4 on December. And there's Mirror's Edge as well, looking really slick. Looks like that graphics card upgrade for my desktop is necessary after all. HD4850 or HD4870?

XPS M1530 = Overheating piece of Al

Even Nagi is shocked.

Should've heeded the warnings way before I got my XPS. I knew there was an overheating problem with the 8-series Nvidia M-range graphics cards, but didn't know it was this bad. 70 degrees celcius on idle, imagine how high it would go on full load. A little bit hesitant to play games on my XPS now. ><

P.S. Nagi is irresistable and mine alone. ^^

My XPS M1530 just survived a horrible BSOD(Blue Screen of Death) from the GPU overheating issue. Time to utilize the award winning Dell's XPS Support to full effect. Muahahaha.

Study week = study

Study week next week = study study study. But for now, *evil grin*.

Golf is a bitch. I never really grapsed the true technique of hitting the perfect shot, although it flew most of the time. The ball tends to swirve to the right in my case. There's this evaluation as well tomorrow morning, and five hits for 70 marks. I might get three, but I've been inconsistent all this while so who knows.

I never really liked computer programming as well. Still never really got the idea of what I was studying all this while in class. And when it comes to assignments, it's CTRL + C and CTRL + V that I have mastered perfectly.

Engineering Maths and Material Science. Same old same old. At least I know what I am doing in both of these classes. The only worthless subject that I despise the most, and I don't even have the textbook for it, is Islamic and South Asian Civilization. Thank goodness for past year questions.

There's still two days before next week starts. Anime and manga marathon~

Yeap, Rosario & Vampire Capu2's new OP song by Mizuki Nana is insanely addictive! Oddly named as "Discotheque", whatever that means, should be somehow related to disco. Forget that. It's so addictive that I played this song on my walkman non-stop from Perhentian Kajang bus station to Jalan Imbi bus stop near Times Square, that's around one and a half hour's journey, lip-synching "churu-churu-churu-pa-ya-pa" whenever that part arrives. There are three tracks in total in this single release titled "Trickster", which is the single's main track. The other two are OP and ED themes of Rosario & Vampire Capu2.

Another hit soundtrack from Macross Frontier! Just like the 1st OST, this 2nd OST features full length songs from the anime and some BGM composed by Kanno Yoko. IMO, this 2nd OST is much better than the 1st OST as there are more full length songs. Don't really like to listen to BGM music, I usually remove them from my playlist. But the BGM from Nyan Tora is quite solid, and very familiar if you're an avid Macross Frontier fan. Personally I love most of the full length songs in this OST, but out of the lot I'd have to say Anata no Oto(アナタノオト), Yousei(妖精), Seikan Hikou(星間飛行), Northern Cross(ノーザンクロス), Triangler duet by Ranka and Sheryl(トライアングラー fight on stage), and Nyan Nyan Service Medley(娘々サービスメドレー) - that crazy but incredibly well done remix from episode 25 - are my pick of the lot. Aoi no Ether(蒼のエーテル) is good as well, just a bit too soft for me. And yeah, Seikan Hikou is still my ichiban fave among all the songs! Close in second would be Northern Cross, and tied in third would be Anata no Oto and Yousei.

Worth your bucks, this soundtrack definitely is. In fact all five singles and soundtracks from Macross Frontier are worth your money. Go buy it NAO.

As the title might suggest, this manga is strictly for 18 and above only. It contains pretty strong taboo material, a few pages of barely adult content and the storyline might be offensive to the more sensitive crowd.

It was from sheer "determination" to find a random manga to release me from my boredom on a lonely Tuesday night that led me to a fateful and certainly meaningful encounter with Bitter Virgin(I feel a bit awkward saying this title ^^;;;). 32 chapters with 25 pages per chapter, in just over two hours, I set a new personal record for reading a completed manga in the shortest ever time. You certainly can now imagine how good this manga is, can you? It's certainly nothing like ANYTHING that I have ever read, dare I say, ever since I became an avid manga reader. It tackles all the taboos of pregnancy before marriage, abortion, sexual abuse, underaged pregnancy, and all that involved one character, the female lead. Mentioned in the overview extracted above, she is an example of the darker side of society which we don't get to see very often. What shines in this manga, is of course, the female lead, Aikawa Hinako who is androphobic due to his hideous experiences when she was in middle school. How Hinako met the male lead, Suwa Daisuke, which became her 1st ever male friend after her tragedy. How Daisuke, despite knowing of her dark past since the 1st chapter(spoiler oops!), protected her and help kept her secret despite her not knowing that he knew about everything. How Hinako and Daisuke got closer and closer and eventually developed feelings for each other. How both of them overcome Hinako's past and move on together. A bittersweet love story that shows that love will eventually conquer all darkness. Gahh so cheesy. ^^;;;

As you can see now certainly certainly. This manga is uber awesome material. Not like I'm forcing you to read this, but forcing you to read a manga that you will enjoy as much as I did isn't bad at all.

I knew I wasn't wrong when I picked Toradora! and Kannagi up to read during their manga days. Now you all know how good these two series are! I'm very impressed with their anime counterpart even though only one episode has been aired so far.

Eve no Jikan is a surprisingly good anime OVA about the not-so-distant future where androids and humans co-exist. It's really good, but there's a catch. The anime is aired on Yahoo! Japan, once every freaking TWO MONTHS. So it airs on the 1st day of the month, in two-month intervals. Well worth the wait(s) though.

I sense a romance sparking between the protagonist and his android.

We all say that this season will be won by Clannad After Story, but there's just so many quality animes this season, it's really hard to say.

UKM & Autumn 2008

Been in Kuching for two whole weeks, so didn't really bothered to blog since I'm too busy either sleeping or too busy eating Kuching food. Now I'm finally back in UKM after a tiring flight back to KL.

Yay new animes! It's finally autumn in Japan and new animes are slowly starting to air, refer the conveniently made Autumn 2008 anime chart below.

To be honest this autumn has to be the busiest for us anime lovers, if not for me at least. There's quite a lot of promising animes which might be worth watching. A few nice ones already started airing, including Clannad After Story, Toradora!, Rosario & Vampire Capu2, and Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka. Haven't watched any of them yet though, I just finished watching Macross Frontier a few days ago, finished Code Geass R2 just a few hours back, Zero no Tsukaima 3 finished before I finised Code Geass R2, and there's a few more still untouched.

Macross Frontier, although was a great series, but the ending was just a bit disappointing. Maybe the reason being Alto didn't choose one out of Ranka and Sheryl(I'd prefer Sheryl though). Still the ending was a bit... cheesy? Predictable?

Code Geass R2 is anything BUT predictable. Who would've predicted the end would turn up like THAT? If you haven't watched the final few episodes, I suggest you do it NAO.

Zero no Tsukaima : Princess no Rondo. The usual fanservice done to ultimate perfection. Quite enjoyable this time round, better than the second season. I predict a fourth season to come soon. ^^

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu. Quite solid for the 1st 10 episodes, but for some reason I didn't like the 11th but the 12th compensated that for some fanservice. Good job boys.

Warcraft 3 = "DOTA"?

This is really an insult to the main game, Warcraft 3. I do play "DOTA THE MAP" once in a while, and I admit it's a well-done custom map, but that's about it. The terrible or most of the time, arrogant attitudes of the "DOTA THE MAP" players or better known as DOTArds are making other people hate "DOTA THE MAP" and their players as a whole. As a result, we see insults made towards the so-called DOTArds all over in the WC3 forums overrun by DOTA threads, and I admit I'm tempted to throw in my insults. Such is the pitiful and pathetic state of the once glorious Warcraft 3 section of Gamers' Hideout.

Warcraft 3 is a great GAME, "DOTA THE MAP" is a great MAP. Get the damn facts right you f*cking idiots.

I'm sorry if this thread was insulting to anyone of you, but if you find this ever so insulting to you, I suggest you stay away from "DOTA THE MAP" for a while. Far far away.

Though "Welcome to the NHK!" the anime adaptation ended two years ago, can't help but be curious about the manga. And to my surprise, after I finished reading the whole 40 chapters of the manga online(despite having class at 8am later, and it's now 6am), the manga proved to be a much more fulfilling experience compared to the anime, since the manga tells the story in more detail but the ending is basically the same. In the manga, the funny and odd romance between Misaki and Satou is told in full, which is what I wanted to see. Oh, and Misaki is oh-so absolutely cute in the manga!!! One more reason for everyone to buy the manga!!!

Trust me, even if you have watched the anime already(which is top class IMO if you haven't watched it), the manga is truly worth reading again as a lot of stuff isn't featured in the anime. Gonna grab all eight volumes as well, but maybe will get the Japanese version since the English version is a bit too expensive for me... ^^

Time to get some sleep. Going back to Kuching in roughly 36 hours, skipping class this morning. I skip class way too often recently(of course my attendances are taken care of accordingly). ^^;;;

What is there not to love about this new internet browser from Google? It has great compatibility with a lot of websites, it has a revolutionary yet oh-so-simple design, and best of all it loads pretty darn fast. Oh, did I mention - I haven't encountered a single app crash ever since I started using this browser around one week ago. Only complaint I would have is the lack of "widgets" like in Opera or "extensions" like in Firefox, at the moment. But hey, who am I to complain anyway? It still under beta and yet it performs like any other final-release browsers, maybe even much better than some of them.

Okay, finally a proper update for those of you who saw stars for my previous few posts featuring some Japanese anime songs that you probably won't listen to. Here's a reward post for you for your patience(?). Sorta.

I don't get to update my blog that often anymore nowadays. The internet connection I'm having in my room is getting really really absurd. 1st there's the insane download speeds. Oh yeah, it's still there. But now there's a catch: insanely slow web surfing speed. Patience is virtue but I'm really fuming when it comes to reading anime on my room's internet line. I probably have to refresh the page five times before I can get rid of the "network timed out" bullsheet. Fast download speeds are good, but when you can't even reach the downloading webpage, your sanity probably would run out soon enough. Good news is that there's a new wireless package by Jaring which I tried, pretty decent. Download speeds can reach to around 200KB/s. RM90 per year for the subscription(which is dirt dirt cheap), I just hope there's no capping on that. And I sure hope I can stay in this dorm for two whole sems for that.

My engineering maths mid-term exam just went down the drain. I still don't get the vector space thingy. I flopped the matrices part. I'm not even sure my complex numbers part would hold me up to the passing mark or not. Die die die for sure. Material science exam coming up next Tuesday, should be not much of a problem.

I have probably been spending a wee bit too much during the past two months I've been here. Sadly I haven't been tracking my spending up till now(and the total might be really unimaginable), but as far as I know, I will be spending another RM170 for a new set of earbuds probably early next month and *hopefully* I can still survive. I'm still collecting anime figures up till now, just spent RM300+ on two figures just last month, and next month I probably will spend another ~RM380 for two more figures. That doesn't sound good, does it. The figures might really have to wait if I really can't afford to spend more, so yeah, Kevin, need you to help me clean the dust off my figures boxes for a month or two yahh. ^^;;;

I seriously need a new camera and a decent mobile phone. But considering the way I'm leaking money from my wallet, probably won't be able to afford anyway. Now I know, most Motorola phones become shit after 1 year. =(

That's all for now. Probably won't have a lot of rant/sulk posts here, so no worries everyone. Wait till I get a new camera ok. ^^

Been repeating Lion and Northern Star again and again on my PC and my walkman, really addicted to these two songs already. While Lion is more of a "positive" song due to the contents of the lyrics, Northern Star is the opposite. Both are upbeat songs, but I'm more biased towards the incredible vocal capacity that May'n showed in Northern Star. I tried to lip-sync the song, but damn the tempo in some parts just overwhelm me.

The lyrics are quite good as well, posting up the English translation of it since the song is so fast, most of you won't be able to catch up with the tempo anyway. XD

もうひとつの世界　智代編

Finally got the time to watch Clannad's OVA featuring Tomoyo. I know, I know, it's been over a month already since the OVA came out, but this really explains how little free time I have over here. Thanks goodness for the insanely fast internet for the OVA!

Final thoughts:
I can feel that the OVA was kinda rushed, felt it could be better if made in a few OVA episodes, but still the quality is as expected from KyoAni. Sweet moments between Okazaki Tomoya and Sakagami Tomoyo(used their full names since their last names kinda similar) makes me warm and fuzzy all around. From this OVA too, we got the chance to see Tomoyo's very soft and vulnerable side, which is her love for Tomoya. This really shows out her feminine side which is really really rare in the real series and she is UBER KAWAII! Too bad this is just an OVA.

Clannad After Story will come out this year end(Winter 08/09? Not sure). Direct sequel to the 1st Clannad, really can't wait for it!

Convocation@UKM

After UM, now it's UKM's turn to turn up the heat and volume for its 38th edition of the annual convocation. My mistake for saying that the UKM's convo was kinda cold, now I can really feel the atmosphere.

But still, the "semangat kekolejan" or "college spirit" ain't as strong as that of UM. I haven't heard about any plans for our college's chinese community to go to the convo and celebrate with our college's graduates like what UM had last week. Or maybe because our college is a PALAPES college and thus there's not even one chinese graduate who survived living three/four years here. But then again the chinese communities in other colleges aren't doing anything as well.

I did plan to enter the ArtisUKMa or the UKM choir group, but instead I missed the audition and now I'm really grateful I didn't enter. They had constant choir practice during these few weeks and from what I've heard, they had to practice around 13 songs in less than two or three weeks to sing during the convocation. I might be a school representative during my Kuching High days but that's a bit too over liao. ^^;;

Chaos in UKM the whole day expected during the convocation. Traffic was awful as everyone was scrambling around to find a place to park, good thing I didn't drive.

I'm really curious about the other universities' convocations, especially UNIMAS's. Anyone reading my blog from UNIMAS?

Updating from the main library in UM(Universiti Malaya). 1st of all, the Wi-Fi here has more decent speeds comparing to UKM's Engineering Faculty, but I can't download a damn thing from any website due to the filtering which I have no idea how they implement it so well. Can't even login to my MSN to chat with me peers. ^^;;

So I'm in UM attending my sister's convocation, but only both my parents can enter the actual ceremony as they only prepared two invitation cards. So that leaves me here nothing to do so loitered around finding a decent place to go online. Stumbled upon the main library of UM here and here I am.

Life at UKM so far

Haven't had the proper time(and proper connection) to blog about my life at UKM so far.

So now, with a decent line and a cup of Nescafe in my hand, here I present to you my brief story at UKM so far.

I enrolled in UKM on the 29th June last month, exactly. My college(or dorm) of selection(or was selected) is Kolej Tun Hussein Onn, or more passionately KTHO, famous for it being a PALAPES(army reserves) dorm. Those army guys are really friendly though, I kid you not. Food at my dorm is among the cheapest in the whole campus, but seriously, the food is not that good. They cook the food like there's an unlimited amount of GREEN chilies laying around. Even people like me who is used to spicy food can't stand the food here. On the bright side, the food at my faculty is tons better, and the price is still quite cheap. Their Roti Canai can beat any Kuching mamak stalls ones any time. The college mates that I have met so far are mostly friendly, approachable. Quite a few Sarawakians and Sabahans as well, good signs. Sniped for girls as well during the 1st week, locking on a Johorian girl in the same faculty as me, doing chemical engineering. Good signs indeed.

So, after the 1st week of scrutiny and the 1 whole week of fatigue cummulated, I ended up sleeping off my 1st weekend in university.

2nd week kicked off my studying life at UKM, or more specifically at the Civil Engineering Department(JKAS) of the Faculty of Engineering(FKEJ), UKM. The 2nd week was all in all, awful. We were ordered by our seniors to do really absurd stuffs, and ended up learning nothing at all. 2nd week was pretty uneventful, really. Boring, compared to the 1st week. But the boredom was compensated when I went out with some friends to KL during the 2nd weekend. Ended up spending around RM800+ on some instinctive buying(NOT REGRETTING YET!).

3rd week was more of a transition week for me, going from relax mode to more of a study mode. All the subjects have started teaching by now, and seriousness began creeping in all of the students. 3rd weekend saw me following a Buddhist fellowship to a seaside camp, met lots of seniors and made lots of friends.

4th week, nothing much happened as well, except for the faculty night which costs a bomb to go but fortunate I am lucky enough to avoid thanks to my family coming over early next month. The others in my course are practicing a sketch for the fac night, they will be competing with the three other departments during the night itself. There's also a fac king and queen pageant. All in all, a forgettable event I am predicting. ^^;;

Went out again last weekend, went to Bukit Bintang area. Ended up watching a movie at Pavillion and barely caught the last train home(11.55PM). Great experience. Oh, FYI, UKM is around one hour by train from KL Sentral, and if you are unlucky enough, get prepared to be squished like sardines in a can during peak hours.

That pretty much summed up my 1st month at UKM. Fun so far, more fun to come! No class tomorrow(Wednesday), but need to sleep after wearing myself out doing my lab report. For those who are in KL, feel free to contact me during Wednesdays and weekends, go out yum char. ^^

Another minor update from inside UKM's Chancellory building.

Life at UKM had its ups and downs so far. Most are ups, while the minor downs are trivial matters such as falling asleep in lectures and stuff like that. Blame super comfy chairs and perfect not-too-hot and not-too-cold AC temperatures for that.

Bought myself a new music player, the Sony A726 MP3 walkman for RM599 from Harvey Norman Mid Valley, kinda like a reward for myself for making it this far. Hehe.

Planning to get a customized Dell XPS M1330 during next month's PIKOM PC Fair as well, RM4103 for the below specs.

One week plus over here at UKM Bangi, I have to regretfully tell you that I'm still alive and kicking. I'm living in a dorm which is shared with the PALAPES, or the army reserves. And surprisingly they are very nice folks. I had tons of fun during my orientation week, despite getting yelled everytime we did something wrong. Believe me, it was really fun, so much fun that after the week had ended, boredom has slowly crept into my daily life. Waking up at 4.30am each morning, early morning yellings from the JAKSA, plenty of activities during the day, and finally sleeping at least around 12-1am in the morning. The seniors were really patient with us, holding back their anger with just mere scoldings when we did something wrong.

Haven't had the chance to go out of the campus for a breather yet, but will probably be doing so either this Wednesday or this weekend. Need to buy my wireless mouse and a CM laptop cooler from Low Yat liao. Maybe a new music player even. ^^

Finally the time has come for me to leave my beloved city of Kuching behind for quite a while. Not too excited and not too tense as well. Met most of my good friends before leaving, will miss them quite a bit. But I'll be back. In 11-12 weeks' time. I might not blog at all due to the rumoured bad Wi-Fi there so don't expect anything here to be updated within the 12 weeks. I know, sad.

Off to KL on the 28th(Saturday). Meanwhile, doing my best to replicate my desktop's desktop setup onto my lappie. Doing good, XP's still great after using Vista for so long. Loving my custom skin right now. Lappie's doing great too, though it's a cheap Lenovo, it's doing real great for me, except it can't play the Bluray rips smoothly that I've been downloading recently. >.<

Ever since the desktop "show-off phenomenon" over at Danny Choo started a few days ago, I've been more and more conscious of my desktop's outlook. My desktop used to be real plain, but after a few minor adjustments and additions, I really love my desktop now. It's still plain, but it's now quite elegant and worthy of a show-off here. It's a PNG file since JPEGs captured really grainy printscreens of my desktop.

Simple no-nonsense sidebar + Rainmeter with custom skin + Pretty wallpaper of melancholic dark-ish Kotomi-chan + Clean desktop with no icon whatsoever = Pure Win.

Oh, did I mention that the Rainmeter(the maid thingy) fades away when the mouse hovers over it. Like magic~

Sekirei is an anime adaptation of the manga with the same title, airing sometime this summer(airing 2nd July!!! Damn that's directly on my university orientation week). Really looking forward to this anime, considering the amount of "boin boin" from the promo video below. Currently stuck on Chapter 6 in the manga, so more reason for me to watch the anime. Ready those 3-ply tissues for the inevitable nosebleeds.

ぱすてる(Pastel) - one of my top favourites among all the ongoing mangas right now. Was dying to know what happened next when volume 18 ended like a cliffhanger, and that was around five months ago. Thanks Kevin for helping me get my mangas and courier it over. Looking for a really slow paced romance manga with bits of humour and nice artwork? Look no further.

Would really love to see Pastel made into an anime as well, but I don't think it'll be as great as the manga if so. The key to this manga is its slow-paceness, it's so slow paced, the main character needed 16 volumes to successfully confess to the girl he likes. So you really should stay away if you can't stand something like this. But still, Yuu-chan is so moe... ^^

原因很可能是第9和第10话是有关中华联邦的，其中包括一些建筑被毁的场面。为了表示对中国四川地震灾区的默哀，这一集较敏感的内容被推后播放。

Due to the earthquake disaster at Sichuan province of China, Japan's TV channel MBS and SUNRISE have decided to suspend airings of episodes 9 and 10 for a period of two weeks, and will resume airing on 15/6/2008.

A very possible reason for this would be because episodes 9 and 10 would be involving the fictionous Chinese Federation from the anime series, which also includes some of its buildings being destroyed in the above episodes; and to pay respects to the unfortunate victims of the earthquakes.

I'm rooting for the Oranje, but to be honest I'm not that confident they would go very far this time. Italy, Germany, Portugal, France and Spain are the big big favourites to go far, but we all know anything can happen like in EURO 2004(Greece won, despite Portugal having full home advantage).

The first game of the tournament will kick off today at midnight(GMT +8) at Basel, Switzerland vs Czech Republic. Keep those coffee makers running, this is gonna be 23 days of non-stop EURO madness!

The new price of premium leaded petrol (ULG 97) is RM2.70 per litre beginning midnight tonight, it was announced a moment ago. The price for ULG 92 petrol per litre went up by 74 sen to RM2.62. Diesel will go up by RM1 per litre to RM2.58. The 78 sen hike or 40 per cent increase for the ULG 97 petrol is still below the antiticpated RM4 per litre price projected earlier and among the cheapest in Asia. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at a news conference.

With my sister back from KL for good, I finally have a better camera to play with. Although it's no SLR, at least it way way better than my lansi Canon IXUS40 which produces damn grainy photos.

Damn I'm good. If you've been following my blog all the while, you'd notice the big big difference between the quality of IXUS40 and this. I can even the the dust on Taiga-chan's head. Dust - figure collector's worst enemy.

I'm blogging from outstation(my room) through my newly installed home WI-FI network. Slower than I had expected, my speeds maxed out at around 80KB/s, and its pretty much like a roller coaster ride. My 5-year-old laptop is also giving me a ton of headaches.

1st of all:

I don't know what that is that's having a temperature of 96 and 94 degrees celcius respectively, but my laptop still works fine. Wierd stuff. Any idea what's causing this, Creax?

Here's my processor model, pretty ancient. 90nm technology! And my integrated graphics accelerator(my, do they still use that term?) for the laptop is 130nm technology. But this old man still does what it can do - surf the web and watch standard definition videos. My recent animes are mostly in 720p(exception with Macross Frontier, 1080p), which this laptop won't handle very well(heck, it can't even handle .mkv files properly).

Pretty fun surfing the web from the comfort of my own room(my desktop is in my study room on the ground floor). Down side is that you can't possibly sleep early like this(5am now).

Lost a bit of inspiration to blog nowadays, in a period of lost transition(psycho-ly) between my carefree life now and my up-and-coming university life. Have also been refraining myself from blogging Kanokon(not easy if addicted) and kinda lost a little bit of appetite towards animes. I haven't even watched episode 7 of Kanokon, yet(*gasp*).

Part 2 covers my visit to the Penang Butterfly Farm, which as you can see, is not just about butterflies. I'm quite surprised that my IXUS can churn out pretty decent pictures, though albeit grainy when zoomed in 2-3x. Lacks powerful colour though, the colours were kinda dull and cold. Part 1 is here.
